Just saw a headline about NYC proposing a budget of ya know millions but by cutting 600 teaching jobs. Seriously? Everyone is always complaining about public schools already enough so cutting teaching jobs makes more sense, right? This is my first blog input, so I'm pretty new at this "put your thoughts out there in cyber oblivion" type of social media. I just got my first smart phone this year and I was born in 1975. As must as technology is awesome, I try not to depend on it too much. I have a MySpace that I haven't updated in oh...about 4yrs. I have a Facebook...pretty much to find old friends, as I have traveled much. My kids don't have their own cell phone...expecially with video and web capability. They don't have TV in their rooms and they are honestly great kids. Anyways more on my life later.
The youth today are starving for guidance and discipline. When I see on the news a 12 or 14yr old killing another student or killing a parent (usual step parent), I just cry inside and think, what a stupid kid and most of all what stupid parents for letting innocence disappear. Too many children are just not children anymore and too many parents and some teachers try to be friends rather that the adult. It's heartbreaking. I'm a pretty involved parent, especially in school. I want my kids to know that I care about what they are learning and how they are learning and who it teaching. I still have conferences with teachers and they often tell me that they wished more parents were involved and that they love my kids and wish others would learn from their example. The husband and I aren't perfect and my kids aren't perfect...but we work at it and have perfect intentions. I got off track again...
Teachers -- their hands...the supervisory hands...the district hands and on up the chain has gotten out of control. Their hands are tied way too often when it comes to discipline. Do we use bad apples when just enjoying a snack? No..we either cut the bad part off and eat it or throw it out. There are way too many bad kids out there and no one wants to do anything about it. They suspend them for a few days and then they are back...just to cause a raucus because they can. I think it would be very distracting to a teacher and her classroom if there are one or more distractions in the class. If the bad students don't want to go to school, then don't make them. They have already chosen to be a loser. You can't force self-improvement, it has to come from within. And that comes with a good stable home with strong parents. A community to raise the child, not turning a bling eye. It's a sad thing really. For the bad kids that don't want to go to school, there should be some sort of Juvenile detention community service. Anyways....I could go on and on, but I'll save myself ;o). And I'm not running spell check, so whatever...
